Food Security Connections Film

October 27, 2021

In 2021 the Food Security Connections Video came together as a collaborative project of the Food Literacy Working Group of the Good Food Network and the Capital Region Food and Agriculture Initiatives Roundtable (CRFAIR). This project was funded by an Island Health, Community Wellness Grant and supported by the Capital Region Food and Agriculture Initiatives Roundtable (CRFAIR).

The video is meant to spur dialogues and discussions around food insecurity, hear stories from people in our community and from individuals and organizations that are working to alleviate food insecurity through food justice efforts.

Give the Gift of Good Food

November 30, 2014

Our neighbours at the Fernwood NRG’s Good Food Box are running a holiday fundraiser and we wanted to help spread the word!  Here’s the scoop:

Fernwood fundraiser will feed families all year

Donate and make a difference for a family struggling to meet their nutritional needs

Hilary Mark is one of the long-time volunteers with the Good Food Box. A team of incredible volunteers works together every other week to pack Good Food Boxes and keep costs low for the program. Because of volunteers like Hilary, Fernwood NRG is able to provide more food for families with every donation received. Photo: Britt Swoveland

This holiday season, Fernwood Neighbourhood Resource Group (Fernwood NRG) is raising money through their Give the Gift of Good Food fundraiser to support families who attend programs at the Fernwood Community Centre.

Grow A Row 2014 is underway!

May 16, 2014

We are excited to announce that the Grow A Row program has started up once again!

fullgawcolor

Grow a Row is a community of gardeners, businesses, groups and individuals gathering together to help those in need.

The concept is simple:

Grow an extra row of food in your garden and bring it to one of the drop off locations around town where it will be distributed to food lunch programs, community kitchens, food banks and Our Place Society.

Support food justice and security in your own backyard!

june-donations

Starting Saturday May 17th, the Compost Education Centre will be accepting donations of excess garden produce from 10:00am-4:00pm.  All produce collected at our Centre at 1216 North Park St will be promptly delivered to Our Place and added to the nourishing meals they provide to people in need in our community.  Our Place serves over 1,200 meals a day, 5 days a week and your extra tomatoes, zucchini, kale or other veggies will help make them even more nutritious and tasty.
