Special lecture and workshops to celebrate compost, the “heartbeat” of our soil!
SATURDAY JUNE 6TH:
10am-12pm Chocolate Cheesecake, Soil Microbes, and How You Can Grow Healthy Dirt $20/$15 (members), please pre-register: Far from being merely “dirt”, our soils are in fact living dynamic ecosystems, the base of all life (and food) on Earth. Come explore the many beneficial relationships within the earth beneath our feet, and learn how to create and support healthy soil, so it will in turn support us. With Christina Nikolic of the Organic Gardener’s Pantry. Click here to register for this workshop.
12pm-1pm Soil Stewardship Site Tour: Walk and chat about soil stewardship practices happening on the CEC site with our Site Manager, Alysha Punnett.
1pm-3pm Building and Maintaining Soil Fertility $20/$15 (members), please pre-register: Have you toiled away all summer and had poor results: tiny onions, bug infested lettuces, and bland tasting carrots? Jackie Robson will take us through the basic principles of organic growing, including several approaches under the organic umbrella. Ph, soil structure, texture, testing and essential nutrients are also included. The main emphasis will be on the living component of the soil and a hands-on demonstration on how to encourage maximum microbial diversity and numbers with compost tea.
